Translation and commentary of the text
- Description:
- For those new to the AE List and who want to go through the detailed analysis and discussion of this text, you will find all the relevant mail in the archives of the AEL. However, the archive is now >1200 messages, covers many topics and texts, and it may take you a LONG time to find what you want (like me!).
-
- Here I have collected together the most important AEL mail postings in a form that should be easier to find. Those wishing to read the original (and unedited) mail messages should dig in the mail archives of the AEL. I have cited the author, date and e-mail headers of each posting so searching the archive will be a lot easier.
-
- Follow the discussion and you will find a hotbed of controversy and differing viewpoints! The translation of hieroglyphic texts is not straightforward. There are many pitfalls, alternate interpretations, scribal errors, and genuine ambiguities. After following the discussion for some time you will never look at the published translations with the same sense of certainty. Have fun!
-
- No doubt, I have made errors or omissions, so please tell me [MDS] and I will look at the matter. Commentaries are by AEL page number. Page correspondences to de Buck's book can be found in the transliteration section, and at the start of each commentary (eg. AEL page 1 = de Buck p79).
