PAGE COMMENT

3 x and X are given the same English ('egyptological') phoneme 'kh' even though they are shown to be phonetically different. This appears to be to be a bit confusing, and could be easily remedied by using 'kh' and 'ch'.

50 Hieroglyphic example in middle of page, latter half of sentence: imAx.y is present in the hieroglyphs just after in, but is not mentioned in either the transliteration or translation.

52 Inconsistency with the transliteration of weak verbs. Sometimes the verbs are written with the final (i) and other times not. This occurs right through the book. I would prefer weak verbs to always be written with the final radical.

58 Vocabulary: lack of n in the writing of nHH. This is not explained (also in dictionary). The authors probably stuck to the actual stella variant. The writing without n is a rare variant of nHH (Gardiner, Faulkner have them) and it should be mentioned.

67 1st sentence Hqr, the determinative is A2 not A1. This is repeated on p73 and p80. [see more]

68 Second example, transliteration given as: Dd.t(w)=f n=f - etc. The first =f is not required as this is a passive construction.

74 Section 5.4, epithet of the wife. On the inscription where one expects there to be imAx.(y)t (revered one), there is a p instead of a x sign. No explanation.

75 Vocabulary: ini in the name ini-Hrt-nxt is not shown with a final i but the other weak verbs in the vocab. list are.

a) Lowest line of inscription: the boat sign looks very odd. No note or explanation. Was it damaged?
b) Below the lowest line, description of servant: wbA sign looks odd. The sin sHtp is wrong orientation. No note or explanation.

79 Description of the mother: Why is there no statement of affection for or by the mother? Isn't this odd?

b) Line 10, near end: grH (night) appears to be spelled with Xr T28 (butcher's block) rather than g W11 (jar stand).

121 Top line of page: The neshmet barque is feminine, so there should be an =s suffix pronoun rather than the masculine =f, after nmtt. The transliteration at the back of the book is correct.

124 Where is qbw, the father's name, in the page vocab. Are you supposed to look this up in the vocab. at the back of the book?

165 lesson 3.9 after di=f the transcription goes "prt-xrw" but it should be xA m . Subsequently, the translation "...so that he may give a voice offering of..." should be "...so that he may give a thousand of"

lesson 4.6 right-hand scene the translation goes "Spearing fish..." but it should be "Throwing at fowl..."
the inscription beside "left" Snby's wife(destroyed) is left untranslated: mrs nbt imAx, "Meres,possesor of reverence."

168 Transliteration of butcher, referring to p79, bottom line of inscripiton. The vocab on p79 has sftw for butcher, yet the transliteration on p168, bottom line of page, has sfTw. Vocab at back of book gives both transliterations, but this is a bit confusing!

171 Ex. 7.7, near end of register 4 of the inscription (p108): the word wHm is not included in the transliteration or translation.

a) Ex. 8.3, line 8: nTr.w nb(w).
b) Ex. 8.4, noted a problem with the spelling of the city Ddw. The spelling varies between Ddw and DDw, depending on the text, yet the vocab. gives only Ddw. So, change the spelling in the transliteration of Ex. 3.9, 4.7, 7.7, 7.8, 8.5, to Ddw.
