From: "A.K. Eyma" To: "AEL" Subject: AEL Vocalisation Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 12:42:45 +0100 Dear all, The results of my poll are as expected: only a handfull interested and only a third of that knows anything on the subject. In line with a suggestion by Mark (AEL listowner) we've thus decided to create an annex-room of AEL for this topic. The detailed analyses (lenghty and dreary for those not interested, I admit it) of vocalisation were felt to be too much a by-road, as the main thrust of AEL is grammar and translation. The annex-list is called 'Fecht', subscription is not open (so goes via me, OFFLIST). As the name signals, it is about mainstream vocalisation - read: bone-dry 'math' (it even looks like that!). This to let you think twice before applying. ;) For it is not a chat list, and it is certainly not about all those pseudo-vocalisations you find on the Net, based on Bantu, Berber, IndoEuropean, or whatever more nonsense. If you even utter the word "Swahili" you will fly straight out again. Just to avoid any misunderstandings :). Those responding to the poll were subscribed automatically, if you want on (or off) just drop me a note. kind regards, Aayko Eyma ayma@tip.nl ============================================================================== Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 11:21:56 +0800 Subject: AEL Text of Egyptian poem From: " Paul Knobel" To: AEgyptian-L@rostau.demon.co.uk Could anyone possibly help me with the source of the original Egyptian text of the following poem? The only information I have is that it was quoted in an old German psychology book. It may be from an ancient Egyptian text edited by Adolf Erman. It possibly comes from the 18th dynasty and is apparently a poem of praise to the Pharaoh. Can anyone help? The translation has been taken from a Swedish translation of the German. "Beautiful is the shape, created by Ptah./ The boy whom love makes beautiful/ comes from the countries of north Africa./ Beautiful is his face, beautiful his diadem./ The gods rejoice at his beauty,/ get as they see him, new strength./ The gods love his shape./ Love with the boy runs through the world./ All hearts melt before his sight." Please reply to Paul Knobel, Sydney, Australia at knobel @ ozemail.com.au Thanks in anticipation. ============================================================================== From: "seneb" To: "Ancient Egyptian Language List" Subject: AEL Re: Drawing hieroglyphs Date: Sun, 3 Dec 2000 13:20:06 -0400 Hello to all, My name is Sean McCall, and I am constructing a website that shows how to draw some of the more difficult signs by using animations. At the moment, I have only a few up and running, but there will be many more soon. Check it out. Thank you Sean McCall webdance.colorado.edu/hyperglyph p.s.
