These should be useful to future readers (such as those who subscribe to AEL/EEF!) as well as to the authors. Please send me (or to the list) any comments you wish to make (on my review or your impressions/criticisms of the book), particularly from the newer students. I should add that I have no financial interest in the book. I am strictly a beginner but with this book I have been making real progress which encourages me to work harder at it. Specifically the book's emphasis on words in Egyptian rather than transliteration has made it much easier for me. ============================================================================== From: Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 12:37:29 EDT To: Christopherobyn@compuserve.com, AEgyptian-L@rostau.demon.co.uk Subject: AEL for Mac While we're on the subject of material suitable for the beginning do-it-your- selfer, have any of you seen Al Fletcher's program? It's a Macintosh program using Hypercard stacks. I've been quite pleased with it because it presents actual reproduced tomb inscriptions and art, and provides the vocabulary and explanation necessary to understand them. After completing a lesson I really feel like I know something, because I've been translating authentic texts. I've tried the dictonary at CCER, but it's off-line for a while. Even harder to find are pet-/nicknames. I'm curious about the hieroglyphic representation of the following names: - Meketaten - Meritaten - Mayati (pet-/nickname of Meritaten) - Ankhesenpaaten - Ankhesenamun Does anyone know how these were written or where to find it? regards, Marc van Kollenburg e-mail: m.v.kollenburg@kbi.nl ============================================================================== From: Date: Sat, 1 Aug 1998 22:04:47 EDT To: AEgyptian-L@rostau.demon.co.uk Subject: Re: AEL Amarna Letters In a message dated 98-07-31 03:34:12 EDT, you write: << There is also a three-volume study of the Amarna letters recently published by Anson Rainey.
