Could you recommend to me a good Demotic textbook or dictionary with a phonetic guide to Demotic characters? It would be much appreciated! But you know, as much as it is viewed with suspicion, the practicalities of ancient Egyptian speech actually require this type of experimentation, because speech has such an instinctive aspect to it. Also, I continue to look for others who are conducting original research into the practicalities of ancient Egyptian script, especially semi-cursive on papyrus rather than linear on painted wood. While I value what we can learn about efficient penmanship from looking at ancient Egyptian examples, I am also investigating the technique of scribes who worked on liturgical manuscripts. I recently found a photo from the Met that shows an apprentice's practice board for semi-cursive. Clearly (to me), a sharpened instrument was used, as opposed to a bristled one when it comes to things like objects like Boulaq 666. So, if there is anyone out there working on similar investigations, please talk to me, if you would. Thanks. Best wishes, Bob ==============================================================================
