It is a very good facsimile of the lengthy text on the undersideside of the lid of the sarcophagus of King Merneptah, with all the glyphs clearly visible. You can view it at http://www.geocities.com/scribelist/sarc.html Marianne Luban Author of "The Exodus Chronicles: Beliefs, Legends & Rumors from Antiquity Regarding the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt", Second Edition, New and Revised (2008) ============================================================================== Date: Sun, 15 Mar 2009 14:33:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Weben Banu Subject: AEL Nemset Bull To: Ancient Egyptian Language List Hello! Has anyone ever heard of a "Nemset Bull"? I've overheard them mentioned in reference to funerary and temple rituals, but when I tried to look it up in my Concise Dictionary I couldn't find it, and even the Wo"rterbuch isn't giving me much to go on. And since I've only heard of them- never read of them- I only have a transliteration to go on. I've heard of nmst vases as vessels with a particular shape which were used to hold water libations, and those are in the dictionaries, but not the bull. Does anyone know what a nemset bull might be? Or what "nemset" might mean in this instance? Is it a reference to a color? A shape? A description of purity, or a reference to an offering? Any ideas on where else I might look? Many thanks, Katherine ==============================================================================
