To: Ancient Egyptian Language List From: Carl Edlund Anderson Subject: AEL scorpion (AE & Coptic) Date: Wed, 21 May 2008 17:19:27 -0500 On something of a whim, I started looking into the word for "scorpion", though I haven't immediately turned up a transcription of an AE word. (I know the goddess Sekert is supposed to be _associated_ with scorpions, but I gather her name itself has its own non-scorpionish etymology). I did come up with some Coptic words for "scorpion" from the online Crum dictionary : one roughly "ouoohe" (), and another roughly "chle" (). Hopefully, I haven't mangled the Coptic transliterations there too badly .... :/ Anyway, does anyone know if either Coptic form is related to a known earlier AE form?
