This is really interesting information- and will be helpful in my studies! I'll see if I can look up Lopriano's book for more reading. I am studying linguistics and phonetics and, being interested in historical-comparative linguistics, I would like to ask you for some information concerning Egyptian hieroglyphic texts which are said to be found outside Egypt, namely in Spain. I am quite curious about those, since they would support the speculation that Basque was somehow influenced by Egyptian (or one of its later Pre-Coptic stages), at least in the lexical plan (cf. the Basque numeral /zazpi/ "seven", etc.). My questions can be summarized as follows: 1. Is it true that Egyptian hieroglyphic inscriptions have been found in Spain? 2. If so, what stage of Egyptian is that? What are the texts about (very briefly)? 3a. Do you think there was once a colony-like enclave of Egyptians in Iberia? 3b. Do you think the contact was indirect, perhaps mediated by the Phoenicians (as suggested by Václav Blažek in his "Numerals: Comparative-etymological analyses of numerical systems and their implications. Brno: Masarykova Univerzita. 1999")? Thank you for any comments in advance! Best wishes, Petr ==============================================================================
