It looks like the calamus and the bupleurum are the leading candidates- I'd really like to talk to some of these scholars and find out how they developed their theories of identification. Isn't it amazing, the last person to have used this plant would have lived thousands of years ago... and from what I hear the hdn brush was only depicted in a very stylized manner- a bunch of bundled lines flowing down to the floor. There are many unknown plant references in ancient Egyptian texts- I wonder how we have tracked the hdn to these two? When you think about it, it's really astounding.
