The primary aim of the list is to provide a virtual meeting place for those studying ancient Egyptian on their own, to discuss their studies and related issues. We welcome students of all levels (both amateurs and those doing university degree courses) as well as professional egyptologists. The tone of the list is meant to be friendly, open, and scholarly. The list currently has over 900 subscribers of all ages and from all around the world. Check out the most recent mail archives to see what is being discussed.

Onlist or offlist 'flaming' of list members is positively discouraged. Avoid copying long, irrelevant stretches of previous discussion and do not repost a statement just to say you agree with it. Do not respond to your own messages or continually re-introduce topics which generate no responses. Do not copy private messages to the list without the permission of the sender. Do not post copyrighted materials beyond fair use without permission of the copyright owners. Do not submit articles or send e-mail attachments to the list without prior authorisation from the listowner. Posts should be submitted as a simple e-mail message in plain ASCII text format. Extended character sets, HTML, or other extended or enhanced text formatting technologies should not be used when posting to the AEL. Always sign your posts with your real name and email address. This is particularly important for those list members whose email programs do not display the address of the original sender for messages received via a listserv. Remaining subscribed to the list or posting to it after receipt of this copy of the Book of Coming Forth by Email indicates acceptance of the conditions given herein.
